Challenge for everyone 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Hello. My name is David Rule, and I am very new to practical DIY prototyping. Just a few years ago the very idea would have been laughable.

I would like to present a challenge to everyone. Find or design the best possible system for rapidly prototyping and manufacturing a practical DIY maker. What I mean is, a machine that will make just about anything, when fed the proper raw materials. In a reasonable time.

For instance, there is the RepRap, and the work being done at Cornell University, in the USA. (fabber @ fabathome.org)

Both have software and plans for free.

Think about it, and let me know what you think.

Dave.

That's quite a challenge. Perhaps it could be narrowed a bit. For example, let's get a machine that can deposit raw materials (and the materials themselves) for a decent conductor, semiconductor and insulator. The insulator must also have enough strength to be used as a structural material, and appropriate support materials must be designed if this is an additive process. Would that be an adequate foundation for a "maker?" What exists now with these capabilities - both materials and machines?

Regards,

Lee
