prototype materials 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Hello,

We are new to this forum and would like to say Hi to all.

We are working with materials for prototyping purposes which imitate as close as is possible Stainless, bronze, brass, copper etc. we have produced bar stock in square and rounds and machined them to be more represetative of what would be a finished product than say wax or clay. Can be machined using woodworking tools versus metal and requires no lubricants. We would be interested in learning from any party if our approach to producing a machinable product representing as close as is possible a replica of a solid metal prototype.

Thanks,

Terry Gould

Will these products, assuming they are plastic, work with a genisys xs fdm machine?

Hi Model Guy:

Thanks for your interest in Mercury Composites. Since this particular version of the metal composites is real metal granules in a liquid binder and MEKP catalyzed, they will not work in the type of machine you referred to. This version was developed to be cast in any form, machined with common tooling, and finished to the same finishes you would find on solid metals. R&D is working on a version of these materials that is suitable for injection molding and machines like the one you referred to. I am not sure how long this will take but if you stay in touch we will be happy to let you know new developments.

Thanks again,
Bob Johnson
